CU physician leads session at 2015 Aspen Ideas Festival
Dr. Saketh Guntupalli, gynecologist and advanced pelvic surgeon at the University of Colorado, spoke during the Aspen Ideas Festival’s Spotlight Health session on “Does Women’s Viagra Turn You On?” about a new drug to boost women’s libido.
Guntupalli, author of Sex and Cancer: Love, Intimacy and Romance After Diagnosis, has been heavily involved in clinical research on women’s sexual dysfunction and joined a panel of health professionals to discuss the safety and concerns of flibanserin. Different than Viagra (sildenafil), which is used for men’s sexual dysfunction, flibanserin addresses the psychological issues of sexual desire.
Sexual dysfunction affects about 40 percent of women. “It helps women overcome hypoactive sexual disorder, or the inability to have desire,” Guntupalli said.
